The Class 40 association is just entering its 3rd year and is the fastest growing offshore class on the water. It aims to provide fast but affordable forty footers by limiting exposure to expensive materials, prohibiting swing keels and restricting water ballast. In order to keep the costs down, titanium fittings and carbon fibre in the hull construction are banned. There is a limit of 8 sails to be carried and the choice of sailcloth is also restricted.
Hannah White Racing is to build a new Class 40 for the GOC in 2008. Designed by Hugh Welbourne, the new boat aims to be suitable for a circumnavigation but also will push the boundaries of high-tech yacht design. Hannah’s experience with 40 footers will provide invaluable in the design and construction of this cutting edge yacht and the team are sure that this new Class 40 will be one of the quickest on the water.
